Shop independent day 2023 in frome
This Saturday it’s Shop Independent Day 2023, an important day in the calendar of all small business owners.
This dedicated day each year aims to highlight the importance of shopping small and lucky for us folk in Frome, it’s easy to do as there are so many great shops here!
This is my list of my favourite go-to places to check out when shopping in Frome – from Christmas gift-buying essentials to music, beer and homeware purchases.
MILLIE MOON
Millie Moon is a beloved haberdashery based in the heart of Frome and stocks everything a crafter will ever need. They’re extremely knowledgeable, passionate and also offer craft workshops throughout the year.
mary kilvert
This is a treasure trove of colour, pattern and beautiful illustration work. Once inside, it’s a feast for the eyes and stocks the full range of Mary Kilvert products alongside a selection of carefully curated gifts.
Honey on the hill
Honey on the Hill is a beautiful boutique store that gathers the finest homeware, toys, cards, gifts, beauty and wellness items. It’s a joy to browse and one of my go-to places when looking for unique gifts.
assembly
Assembley is a one of a kind place. It offers hand-picked selection of British garments, traditional grooming products and other interesting objects thrown in for good measure. If you happen to pop in on a quiet, midweek afternoon you may even catch Anthony making the odd piece on his vintage sewing machine – where else do you get that?
the golden goose
The Golden Goose needs no introduction – it’s been a mainstay in Frome for years and was recently taken over by Tash in 2020. It’s another of my go to places for beautiful gifts, toys, cards, jewellery and homeware.
palmer street bottle
Palmer Street Bottle specialise in Craft Beers, fine ciders, Wines and Spirits and showcases the best in local producers as well as a range of UK based and International makers and brewers.
It’s open daily for drinks and food and they even have their own bottle shop which offers a wide selection of Craft beers, fine ciders, natural wines as well as a refill station where you can select and take home wine or beer of your choice!
Raves from the grave
This place is an institution. Loved by locals and respected far and wide. When high street staples such as HMV and Fopp have closed, Raves Frome The Grave has stood the test of time, getting stronger even. It stocks a huge range of music and film on CD, vinyl & DVD and covers almost any genre! Even if you’re looking for something a little unusual they’re normally able to find it for you, even if it is rare or possibly deleted! They source worldwide, incredible.
Nomad
Nomad are outdoor enthusiasts who have spent a lot of time using and testing the gear and clothing they supply, so you can trust they only offer the best of the best which is built for the long haul. This is another one of those go to stores for me, which Frome is incredibly lucky to have.
Pilea
Pilea houses the most beautiful (and most unusual) houseplants I’ve seen. It’s hands down the nicest looking plant shop I’ve come across – if you don’t believe me take a look at their Instagram! It’s perfect for gifts and when you fancy filling your own house with natural beauty.
KOBI & TEAL
Another gem of Frome, Kobi & Teal is a design shop and art gallery, which presents work by independent artists and makers. The products they sale range from home and lifestyle products, interior accessories to furniture and lighting. The exhibitions they hold throughout the year are worth taking a visit for alone!
frome hardwear
This cool hardware store seamlessly mixed the old with the new. It stocks the essentials every home could possibly need along with a few well designed pieces you never knew you needed! They also have a very cool laser cutter which I’ve used on a couple of design projects and can cut into almost any material!
hunting raven bookshop
Hunting Raven Bookshop is a beaut of a bookshop, which stocks thousands of titles and offer an overnight ordering service, with a further 500,000 more titles! They run author events throughout the year and also host a very successful monthly book club.

frome independent market
Although it doesn’t land on Shop Independent Day, what sort of shopping guide of Frome would this be if I didn’t mention the Frome Independent Market? It’s on the first Sunday of every month between March–December and the next one takes over town on December 3rd!
I bet after all that shopping you need a coffee (and cake)? Well, lets finish off with…
rye bakery
The Rye Bakery is based inside a converted chapel and offers a variety of delicious breads and pastries along with a range of the most delicious organic treats. It’s well worth a visit!
